WHO ARE WE?

Meitei Alliance, founded in November 2023, is a non-profit apolitical, transnational, consortial platform of Meitei organisations. It’s a platform primarily initiated by organizations and individuals who are based outside the State of Manipur (India). Its motto is Unity and Progress.

WHY WE EXIST?

The birth of Meitei Alliance is based on our perception about Meitei, its needs (primary and secondary), concerns, and the exigencies of organizational effort to address them.

• (a) Meitei is an ethnie composed of those who trace their lineage to one of the seven salais (clans— Mangang, Luwang, Khuman, Angom, Moirang, Kha-nganba, and Sarang Leishangthem) and cognates who are absorbed into or identify themselves with or socially approved as Meitei. But, they are geographically dispersed as they not only live in their aboriginal homeland State of Manipur in India but also in other parts of the globe.
• (b) Meitei’s primary needs (survival and material comforts of living) and secondary needs (collective identity markers, pride, embellishment, recreation, etc.) are achievable by addressing embedded democratic concerns (territorial, civil, political, economic, social, cultural, spiritual, educational, technological, organisational, etc.).
• (c) Meitei’s democratic concerns, which conform with universal humanitarian standards and adhere to the statutes of the domiciled countries; are meant to preserve, defend, and promote their well-being. It also include strengthening harmonious relationship between Meitei and other co-existing communities with a primary focus on defending their aboriginal homeland Manipur.

For this, Meitei Alliance exists as a CONSORTIAL PLATFORM for democratic voices and actions towards UNITY AND PROGRESS.

WHAT IS OUR COLLABORATIVE STRENGTH?

Meitei Alliance believes in strategic approach to expand collaborative strength. It engages in:

• (a) strengthening organisational bond among its members,
• (b) building strategic alliance with like-minded Meitei organisations,
• (c) promoting fraternal activities/engagement or solidarity with non-Meitei organisations,
• (d) tactical partnership with any non-political lawful professional group, organisation, body, firm or company, and team, and
• (e) seeking cooperation or cordial relationship with established authorities at local, provincial, national, regional, and global levels for fulfilling the democratic and rightful causes of Meitei.

WHAT IS OUR INNER STRENGTH?

Meitei Alliance opens membership to any Meitei organisation that accepts its Constitution. The members are bound by the principles of

• (a) voluntary unionism, [i.e., formed by voluntary consent and members enjoying the right to retire under agreed norms],
• (b) democratic communication, [i.e., free, fair, and informed discussion and consensus building among members and accepting majority vote in decision making and actions],
• (c) self-evaluation, [i.e., members to voluntarily practice self-evaluation and identify one’s own shortcomings], and
• (d) democratic centralism, [i.e., Executive Committee shall regularly organise meetings to seek or accommodate constructive opinions / proposals/ suggestions from Board of Advisors, International Coordination Body, Committees, and Member Organisations. The Executive Committee shall also conduct periodic opinion polls amongst members of the member organisations to initiate / reject further action on an issue or topic or theme or case.]
