Meitei Alliance Condemns Heinous Terror By Kuki Terrorists
Ref. No.: 1-240901 PR
September 2, 2024
Meitei Alliance condemns the heinous terror unleashed on 1st September, 2024 by Kuki terrorists at Meitei villages of Koutruk and Kadangband of Imphal West district in Manipur. They used high-tech drones and rocket propelled projectiles for aerial bombing, followed by heavy gun firing that killed a young woman and injured nine, including an 12 years old daughter of the deceased woman.
While we acknowledge the statements from the Government of Manipur and the police of taking necessary measures to hold the terrorists accountable, we also need to see concrete actions. It is disheartening and deeply worrying that 70,000 central military and paramilitary forces who have been deployed for counter-terrorism have not been able to protect the lives, livelihood, and properties of the citizens from the Kuki terrorists. This inaction of the central forces simply encourages the Kuki terrorists to unleash terror to disturb any kind of possible peace efforts in the state.
The unwarranted terror forced the villagers to flee their homes and take shelter elsewhere while the Kuki terrorists committed arsons and plunder. Such modus operandi of terrorism have been carried out many times in the past. The question is, when Kuki terrorists have been repeatedly violating India’s Constitution and International Humanitarian Laws, what has gone wrong with the Government of India that it has not taken up stringent actions against them?
The ongoing violence by Kuki terrorist groups is primarily driven by their efforts to pressure the government into halting actions against illegal immigration, deforestation for poppy plantations, and the expansion of the illicit narcotics trade from Southeast Asia’s ‘Golden Triangle’ into India via Manipur. While we support these government actions, we urge the Indian government to fulfil its fundamental duty of protecting citizens from these terrorist groups.
Sincerely,
Issued by,
Meitei Alliance
