Message for Peace to the Communities in Manipur

Dear compatriots,

Warm greetings to you on the occasion of the festive season at the twilight of 2023 and the dawn of 2024. At this crucial time for Manipur, Meitei Alliance extends its heartfelt wishes for unity, peace, and prosperity to the people of Manipur.

It is with a heavy heart that we acknowledge the prolonged communal disturbances that have gripped our beloved Manipur for nearly eight months. This orchestrated disturbance by certain sectarian forces threatens the peace and development we collectively aspire to achieve.

Manipur is a tapestry of diverse communities who, by mid-1947, had fully evolved into the idea of one people and one republic. Each community is an inseparable segment of a singular organic whole composed of communities. All communities are intricately linked and inseparably interdependent. No community in isolation could address its civil, political, economic, social, cultural, and spiritual concerns without collective efforts involving other communities. The ongoing disturbances, as designed by some sectarian forces to create communal blocks in isolation, are therefore antithetical to the objective and subjective realities that bind the communities together.

We understand that there may be grievances, but communal disturbance cannot address any of them. Disturbances only aggravate and perpetuate the grievances. We firmly believe that embracing empathetic morale, collective dialogue, understanding, and a commitment to peaceful coexistence can contribute to a durable resolution.

In the spirit of the festive season, we urge community leaders, influencers, and members to engage in constructive dialogues, promote understanding, and foster an environment where peace can prevail. Let this season be a turning point towards reconciliation and a renewed commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous Manipur.
