The Meitei Alliance is deeply saddened and concerned by the reported abduction for ransom and tragic murder of Md. Nawash, a 33-year-old resident of Keirang Mayai Leikai under Heingang Police Station. While we acknowledge that our society is enduring a very difficult period in its history due to the ongoing crisis, we strongly condemn such inhuman acts. Our thoughts and prayers are with Md. Nawash’s family during this time of grief and sorrow.

We express our sincere gratitude to the Manipur Police for their swift response in apprehending six suspects connected to this crime. We strongly call for a thorough investigation and prompt prosecution to ensure accountability.

The Meitei Alliance also acknowledges and honours the significant contributions of the Meitei Pangal community to the state’s rich history, particularly the role they played in protecting Manipur. We also remember and pay tribute to notable figures such as Md. Alimuddin, the first Chief Minister of Manipur after it attained statehood. Md. Alimuddin made remarkable contributions to the state’s progress, including the establishment of institutions such as the JNU Centre (now Manipur University) in Canchipur, which holds historical significance. Furthermore, his efforts in initiating state observances such as Patriots’ Day (13 August) and Khongjom Day (23 April) remain enduring legacies. Today’s generation from both communities must honour our forefathers and continue their legacy by building a strong Manipur that embraces all coexisting communities.

The Meitei Alliance stands united with the people of Manipur in condemning all forms of violence and urges everyone to respect the rule of law, refraining from taking matters into their own hands or making communal comments, especially on social media. It is crucial to keep legal issues free from communal divisions, as unity and justice are of paramount importance. We call on all stakeholders to actively promote peace, security, and harmony within the society.

Let us work together to prevent such tragic events and ensure that justice prevails for all victims of violence.
